What is your name?
Denise Doyle. My pen name is D.J. Doyle.
When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
I enjoyed writing poetry and short stories in school. I went around with stories in my head for years and after my social life quietened down, I decided I needed to get these stories out of my head.
What genre books do you write?
I write horror, all different types from extreme to comedy. I also have a dystopian series in my head and a drama with elements of horror.
What is the name of your book/books?
I have 2 novels, 2 novelettes, and a short story on Amazon. My novels include The Celtic Curse: Banshee (paranormal horror) and The Celtic Curse: Newgrange (occult horror). My Novelettes are called Red (extreme horror) and Hades' Gate (mild horror), and my short story is called Christ on a Bike! (comedy horror).
Where there alternate endings you considered?
Yes, for most of them, but I went with the twists for all.
If you could tell your younger writing self anything, what would it be?
Stop procrastinating, have more confidence, and find a great editor.
Does your family support your career as a writer?
Yes. However, I work fulltime, and have a house and family to look after, so time is limited.
What’s the most difficult thing about writing characters from the opposite sex?
I haven't had a problem yet.
Does writing energize or exhaust you?
When I reach my goal, I'm ecstatic but trying to write after a long day at work does exhaust me.
What items do you surround yourself with when you write?
A back-scratcher and water.
What is your favourite genre of books to read?
Horor, my favourite being psychological and paranormal.
What is your favorite childhood book?
I preferred comics when I was a kid, reading The Beano and The Dandy every week. Not to sure if this was my favourite, but my most memorable book as a child i.e. younger than 10 is Kidnapped by Robert Louis Stevenson.
Do you have a favourite author or one who inspires you to write?
The king of horror himself, Stephen King.
What words of wisdom would you give to someone who wants to be an author?
Don't do it for the money, you'll be poor for life. Love the joy it brings to you and your readers
