When did you first realise you wanted to be a writer?


In fourth grade.


What genre books do you write?


Historical fictions, YA, Poetry, Mystery.


What is the name of your book/books?


Once Left the Field of Valor.


Were there alternate endings you considered?


Yes, still think about releasing it at some point.


If you could tell your younger writing self anything, what would it be?


Start taking it serious now.


Does your family support your career as a writer?


Absolutely, my wife and mother have been especially supportive.


What’s the most difficult thing about writing characters from the opposite sex?


My wife helps me when I struggle. It’s great to be married to a strong independent woman.


Does writing energise or exhaust you?


Typically energize. I get excited and don’t want to stop.


What items do you surround yourself with when you write?


Music, water, and bourbon set the writing mood for me.


What is your favourite genre of books to read?


Non-fiction mostly. I read a lot of history and baseball books. When it comes to fiction, I typically like the classics.


What is your favourite childhood book?


As an elementary school kid it was Captain Underpants. In high school it was To Kill a Mocking Bird.


Do you have a favourite author or one who inspires you to write?


Alexadre Dumas.


What words of wisdom would you give to someone who wants to be an author?


Never give up, persistence is the key to opportunity.
