What is your name?

Rob Osborne 

When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?  

Anything is Possible, my debut novel, came from an interrupted dream. Disappointed at not

knowing how it ended, I spent the rest of the day working out the storyline and the ending.  In turn, these thoughts led me to thinking about how I'd come to be in such a position in the first place. Once I started the process, I just couldn't stop and started the writing process.  I'd never felt passion for such a task before. I realised that I needed to finish and publish my work.  This was back in 2001. 

What genre books do you write? 

My debut novel is a romantic drama.  My second book, which has just been accepted by a publisher, is a thriller and my third book (which I'm currently writing) is also a romance but has a completely different stance to my first.  

What is the name of your book/books? 

Anything is Possible, is my debut novel.  My second novel has a working title of Deadly Deception and my third book a working title of Life’s too Short. The actual title of the second novel will be announced near the time of publication as part of my marketing strategy. 

Where there alternate endings you considered? 

I was considering writing three endings to Life's Too Short so readers could choose which one they prefer. 

If you could tell your younger writing self anything, what would it be? 

Several things, in all honesty.  Not to worry so much, that you will get there in the end.  That

rejections from literary agents shouldn't be taken to heart and that going direct to publishers is the way forward.  Making sure that you follow the submission guidelines to the letter is a must –because each publisher has their own criteria. 

Does your family support your career as a writer? 

Absolutely, Like the majority of writers, I have a full-time job and have to juggle family life with writing.  Sometimes family life suffers.  My wife will give me a gentle reminder, and I try to redress the balance.  They also keep me grounded and we have jokes about twitter friends and book sales. 

What’s the most difficult thing about writing characters from the opposite sex? 

I'm good at empathising with others and during my time in banking worked in a predominantly female environment, so have a vast selection of material of fall back on. 

Does writing energize or exhaust you? 

Mostly, it energises me. 

What items do you surround yourself with when you write?  

My phone and iPod.  I design a playlist for each writing project which I find inspiring and I'm on Twitter a great deal.  I use Twitter for marketing and have found a group of supportive authors to interact with – we keep each other positive and motivated. 

What is your favourite genre of books to read? 

I'm not sure I can pin-point a favourite genre.  I like reading books by authors that I know. 

What is your favourite childhood book? 

The Three Investigators series by Alfred Hitchcock. 

Do you have a favourite author or one who inspires you to write? 

The Jason Bourne series by Robert Ludlum. 

What words of wisdom would you give to someone who wants to be an author? 

Go for it!  If you don’t try you'll never know.  If you have a passion for something you should

always push yourself to succeed – it can help you through the difficult times.  There aren’t many better feelings than seeing the work you’ve thrown your heart and soul into bundled up inside a book with your name on.
